The Vermont Youth Lobby is working with members of the Sunrise Movement and the Vermont Climate Caucus (a group of Vermont lawmakers who are committed to climate action) to organize a Youth Climate Congress.  The goal of this event is to bring together 150-200 youth representatives (with an emphasis on under-represented and frontline communities), 20-30 Vermont lawmakers, community climate activists, and the media together to draft, refine and endorse a unified message — in the form of a resolution — to Vermont lawmakers that they must do more to address the climate crisis. Earlier this year, Greta Thunberg and 46 other youth activists issued a call to everyone around the globe to join them in a massive climate strike on September 20th. The Climate Strike will kick-off a week of mass, actions between Sept 20-27. In most countries, the youth strikers have chosen Sept. 20th as the day of their Climate Strike, while in a few other countries they have chosen Sept 27th. Please join us for a daylong, youth-led event supported by the Peace & Justice Center to gather youth from around Vermont for a day of bonding, education, and more! Join us if you are part of any social justice activist work or if you want to learn more about how to get involved. The 2nd annual Race Against Racism is a youth-led community event held at Montpelier High School on September 23rd, 2018, beginning at 11:30. The event starts with a 5K run/walk through the city of Montpelier. Throughout the event, there will be local vendors vending food, including pizza from Woodbelly Pizza. After the race is completed, the performance portion of the event will begin, featuring activists, artists, musicians, and performances. Performers include Soundcheck and A2VT.
